Debut album with NAXOS
On their debut album the Goldmund Quartet presents three quartets by the âfather of string quartetâ Joseph Haydn.
By recording the first, a middle one and the last string quartet by the composer, the quartet doesnât only show the compositorial development of Haydn, but also their personal relationship towards the founder of this genre. âIntonation, articulation, phrasing, balance – you can hear all these elements, which define fine quartet playing, in Haydnâs musicâ, which is why the Goldmunds chose Haydn for their debut album. The Op.1/1 form 1757/58, consists of five movements, clearly evolved from the divertimento form of that time. Towards the fifth âRussianâ quartet Op.33 the ensemble has a special relationship. âIt is the first piece that we played together as a quartet and itâs interesting to see – given our own development – how there are always new things to discoverâ. Of the two last quartets by Haydn, written 1799, the âboys of Goldmundâ chose the no.1. âThe individual voices become much more independent, comment to each other and start a lively dialogueâ.
The album is released with Naxos.
