Raphael Paratore (Cello)

Raphael Paratore was born in Munich in 1992 into a musical family in Munich. He started taking cello lessons at the age of four and piano lessons at the age of six. As a pre-college student, he studied with Prof. Peter Bruns in Leipzig and since 2011 he has been studying with Prof. Claudio Bohorquez in Stuttgart. He is currently enrolled as a student of Prof. Reinhard Latzko at the University for Music in Vienna in the Erasmus program. In April 2011 he graduated from the Pestalozzi Gymnasium in Munich.

He took part in various masterclasses with Prof. Troels Svane, Prof. Wolfgang-Emanuel Schmidt, Prof. Laszlo Fenyo, Prof. Wolfgang Boettcher and Prof. David Geringas. He also participated at well-known academies, such as the Cello Academy Rutesheim, Carl Flesch Academy, Kronberg Academy, ProQuartet Academy, Académie de Musica Villecroze and MISQA. In the chamber music field he has worked with e.g. Prof. Gerhard Schulz, Prof. Günter Pichler, Prof. Heime Müller, Prof. Michael Tree and Prof. Eberhard Feltz.

Raphael was first prize winner at the National competition „Jugend musiziert“ in Germany, where he also won a special award from the Bertold Hummel foundation. He was a prize winner of the International Cello Competition 2008 in Liezen/Austria, the International Competition for Degenerate Music in Schwerin/Germany and in 2012 he won the first prize at the Lions Club Music Competition in Stuttgart/Germany. As a member of the Goldmund Quartet he won the Gasteig Competition in Munich.

He has received scholarships from the Bavarian foundation for talented students, from the society of the Music Conservatory in Stuttgart and the Theodor-Rögler foundation. Since 2011 he is a scholarship recipient of the Yehudi Menuhin „Live Music Now“ society, since 2012 of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and since 2014 of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.

Raphael has performed many concerts and recitals with various chamber groups, including his Duo with the pianist Verena Metzger and as the cellist of the Goldmund Quartet. He has also given concerts together with international musicians such as Christoph Poppen, Franz Halasz, Peter Buck, Stefan Fehlandt and Arabella Steinbacher. Engagements have led him to various festivals e.g. Fränkische Musiktage, Festival in den Häusern der Stadt, Mozartfest Würzburg, International Music Festival Granada and Kronberg Academy Festival „Cello Plus“. Concerts have been broadcasted by the SWR, NDR und BR.

He has also played the electric cello with the cross-over group Einshoch6 and recorded soundtracks for the film composer Marius Ruhland. As a participant of the Tonali Grand Prix 2012, Raphael can be seen and heard in the movie „Ciao Cello“. Concerts have taken him throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Canada and the USA. He has appeared as soloist with the Gautinger Symphony Orchestra, the Neue Philharmonie München, the Budweis Philharmonic Orchestra and the Southwest-German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim among others.

2013 he founded the project „That’s Music!“, with which he brings classical music to young school students and shows them how to understand and enjoy the music.
